What is Microblading? Everything You Need to Know in Auckland NZ
What is Microblading Eyebrows? Your Complete Guide
You may have heard about microblading but are not sure exactly what it is or whether it is right for you. This guide covers everything you need to know about the procedure, what to expect, and how it compares to other brow treatments available at our Kumeu, Auckland studio.
What is Microblading?
Microblading is a semi-permanent cosmetic tattoo technique that creates fine, hair-like strokes to fill in thinning eyebrows and make them look fuller and more defined. It uses a handheld tool with tiny needles to deposit pigment into the upper layer of the skin. Once done, you no longer need daily brow pencils or powders – your brows are done when you wake up.
6 Things to Know Before Getting Microblading in Auckland
- It is semi-permanent. The pigment used in microblading is more degradable than traditional tattoo ink, meaning it naturally fades over time. Most results last 12 to 18 months before a top-up is needed.
- Most clients need two sessions. The initial appointment is followed by a touch-up session 4 to 6 weeks later to perfect the shape and fill in any strokes that did not heal as densely as expected. Everyone’s skin absorbs pigment differently.
- The first session takes time. Drawing your brow shape correctly before tattooing is the most important part of the process. Allow 2.5 to 3 hours for your first appointment, including consultation, shaping, and the procedure itself.
- Brows will not be identical. Eyebrows are sisters, not twins. Every face is slightly asymmetrical and a skilled artist works with your natural facial structure to create balanced, natural-looking results.
- There is some discomfort. Microblading involves fine incisions into the skin. A numbing cream is applied beforehand and most clients rate the discomfort at 2 to 4 out of 10.
- Your brows will lighten significantly after the first week. Fresh microblading looks darker than the healed result. Do not be alarmed – the colour settles and softens significantly over the following 4 weeks.
Microblading vs Eyebrow Tattoo – What is the Difference?
Wondering whether to choose microblading or a cosmetic eyebrow tattoo? The key difference is technique and longevity. Microblading uses a manual blade tool to create hair-like strokes in the upper skin layer. A cosmetic eyebrow tattoo uses a machine to implant pigment more deeply, resulting in a longer-lasting result.
